Speeding chihuahuas
July 26th 2009 06:14
The giant American television networks are not falling over themselves to televise this year's national chihuahua racing championship.
The fifth annual championship gets under way in August with seven regional competitions. The winners qualify for the final in New York City on August 29.
All the finalists get all-expenses trips to New York, where they will race for a grand prize of a trophy, US$300 worth of pet products and a year’s supply of premium chihuahua food.
Chihuahuas, the world's smallest and lightest breed of dog, are the 12th most popular breed in America, according to American Kennel Club statistics.
So the seven fastest chihuahuas in the US will line up on August 29 and race for glory and honour and chihuahua bragging rights. And yet not one television station will be covering the event!
Obviously there's only one way not to miss this unmissable spectacle. I'm booking my ticket now.
