Greyhounds - the almost all-in-one pet
September 16th 2010 05:22
There are now two ways to find a perfect pet.
A pet food company has just announced an online, interactive process through which prospective pet owners can determine the perfect pet for their circumstances and needs.
It is, they say, a "dog and cat breed selector to help you make the right decision".
The selector guides you through a process by which you determine the right pet for you in terms of important considerations such as size, space, expense, temperament, cleanliness, noise, compatibility with children and the aged, intelligence, trainability and guard dog capacity.
Different dog and cat breeds, of course, have many different characteristics, and no breed ranks highly in all categories.
Except greyhounds.
Which leads us to the second way to determine the perfect pet for you - go to your nearest Greyhound Adoption Program and choose one you like. They come in many colours.
PS Okay, we admit to exaggeration in this post, and hereby clarify that greyhounds are not perfect in all the above categories. In fact they fail completely in one category: guard dog capacity.
If a burglar sneaked in our back door in the middle of the night, Scratchy would wake instantly and check to see if he was carrying food. If not, he would return quickly to sleep while the intruder proceeded to steal the TV, computer, washing machine etc.
Note to any prospective burglar: leave the fridge alone. Scratchy's bones are in that fridge and if you go anywhere near it, there is no telling what would happen. One thing is certain - trying to run would be useless.
