Five-star dog house

dog kennel luxury

In a display of dog appreciation which some people may call barking mad, a British surgeon is building a kennel for her two great danes for £250,000. That is US$368,000, or A$568,000, or enough money to rescue every stray dog in Europe.

Talk about the yap of luxury. These dogs are not paw.

The dog duplex is on an estate near Cirencester in Gloucestershire. Features include sheepskin-lined, temperature-controlled beds, a spa, automatic dispensers of chilled and filtered water, air-conditioning, a sound system, a 132cm plasma TV and a retina scanner installed at the front door to stop any other dogs getting in.

We think the retina scanner may be excessive.

The dogs will have a bedroom each, both with large windows which overlook their private playground.

The kennel has been designed by architect Andy Ramus, and will be built of zinc, glass and limestone.

We just hope the retina scanner is reliable. Wouldn't want the neighbourhood dogs dropping in unannounced. That could be a real party pooper.

i firmly believe in Spoiled Hounds, but this might, just might, be a tad excessive, I don't want to commit to that statement, but humm, but I suspect this is carrying things a little far. The retina scanner of course is a necessary, how other to keep the riff-raff out?

Hi HoundChef, personally I was disgusted at the idea of putting a 132cm plasma television in a dog house when, clearly, a 108cm would have done perfectly well.

Wow. That is a *tad* excessive. If I had that kind of money, I'd rather spend it saving those strays! (Of course, if I had that kind of money, I'd have a pooch of my own, but I'd rather have it live in my house.)

The retina scanner is of course necessary-but I have to wonder how much use those dogs are getting out of the TV.

Hi Dianna, I bow to the weight of popular opinion that the retina scanner is needed And you make an excellent point: isn't a major point of keeping dogs to enjoy their company?

You are right, obviously,a 132cm plasma TV is overkill, the 108cm would do just fine. Unless the dogs are having eye problemS, far sighted? Near sighted? Might be the problem. Maybe because the person in the family is a doctor she might feel that keeping the dogs in HER house just isn't hygenic enough? I'm sure she schedules playtime and walkies with their nanny though. And possibly even visits on a schedule that allows "quality" time with the children, whoops, dogs.

Oh well, it's healthier to make out with a dog than with a human, don't know what she's complaining about...

And that place looks pretty sterilized.

I got my little pup from the RSPCA shelter and plan to rescue another in the New Year. My dog is well and truly spoilt, but I love her to bits so I don't see any problem with it.

If I were a surgeon, and if my bank balance was a little healthier I would not hesitate in building a puppy palace for my four legged friends.

alt, I'm lucky enough to work from home (which I would be hard to do if I were a surgeon). My dogs spend all day asleep on the sofas in the living room. At night, they vary the process by swapping sofas. They even have a big-screen plasma TV right there but, surprisingly, they pay little attention to it even when it's on. Too busy sleeping. If I built a palace in the back yard, and gave them the option of moving out there or staying near me ... hey, where'd they go?

ooh see, I'm stuck in the 9-5 grind, and my sofa is a light wheat colour (doesn't mix well with a muddy puppy). She gets run of the house when I'm home with her bed in the corner of my room, and a nice mohair rug in the lounge.. I'd just like her to have a sprawling day-spa styled pavilion in the back yard for use during the day... think of it as a summer house of sorts lol.
