The epicentre of pleasure

March 3rd 2009 01:30
greyhound ears

One day, when the creator had mostly finished making the world and was having a rest and a beer, he had an idea. He would, he decided, make something soft and warm and pliable, and he would make it the pleasure epicentre of the universe.

So the creator fashioned the material, and it was good.

And then he looked around for someone or some thing to give it to. For he could not give it just to anyone - it had to be a worthy recipient, a noble entity who merited, and would truly honour, the pleasure centre.

So the creator looked at man, and he looked at woman (hmm, he thought, I did well there), and he looked at all the living creatures of the Earth, in his search for the most exemplary and virtuous recipient of the pleasure centre.

And then the creator decided. And he beckoned, and a greyhound approached quietly. And the creator touched the greyhound gently on either side of its head, and imbued therein the material of the ultimate pleasure centre.

And that is why, if you scratch a greyhound's ears, you will be blessed with its adoration forever.

This is funny! I like it! Where can I find a Greyhound now?

Thanks Tania

To find a greyhound, just look on every sofa you see. Sofas are their natural habitat.

I love this concept. I have finally overcome my greyhound phobia thanks to your blog. They used to scare me but I now think of them as beautiful beings.

Queenie, your words give me enormous pleasure. Next time you see a greyhound, don't forget to scratch its ears

Thanks, Chris. I will but not the ones that used to live near my street when I was growing up - they used to growl at me which is how I became greyhound-phobic.

They are lovely looking dogs. Are whippets simply miniature versions? And how many dogs do you have?

Hi Teresa,

I have two rescued (Greyhound Adoption Program) greyhounds.

It's a good question about whippets, and I may research and write a post about the relationship. All I know at the moment is that Italian greyhounds (small) whippets (medium) and greyhounds (large) all look very much the same.

Scratching a greyhonds ears is one of life's major pleasures, for the scratcher as well as the scratchee. I love that story, thanks for posting it.

Hi Janice,

You're absolutely right, and I could/should have made that point in the post. In the end it's certainly me who gets the most out of scratching their ears.

Pharaoh Hounds are like greyhounds, but with a regal air.
The bed is softer and bigger than the sofa, so that's where Kharis usually is!

Pharaoh hounds love chasing really fast things, and sleeping in really soft places. Just like greyhounds, right Chris?

And they have selective hearing and love eating odd things, well ours do anyway - did someone say mushrooms? Our dogs all say yummy!
