Daisy's diary: wasted space
July 29th 2009 23:17
The Bosses had visitors to our house the other day, which is always more thrilling for the Bosses than for us Dogs. There are two problems with visitors: they have no idea how to find the S spot — the scratch spot at the base of my ears — and, secondly, they mess up our sleeping arrangements.
I suppose I should explain here, given that humans read my diary as well as Dogs, that what I refer to as sleeping arrangements, in the sleeping room, they commonly refer to as seating arrangements, in the sitting room.
Daft I know, but what do you expect of creatures that can't find an S spot?
Anyway, we had visitors, as I said, and as you can see from the picture above, it proved disruptive to a pair of greyhounds looking for a nice four-hour nap before waking, refreshed and ready to rise, turn around three times, and settle for another nice four-hour nap.
So I got to thinking. What about using the Wasted Space? What is it? Well, have a look at this picture.
See the two tiny sofas over on the right? Those purple ones. I know they are sofas by process of logical reasoning: 1. Humans sit there 2. Where humans sit, dogs sleep 3. Dogs sleep on sofas 4. They must be sofas.
Silly sofas, however, as one look will tell you. Way too small for a dog to stretch out on. Which is why I always dismissed them as Wasted Space.
Now let's return to my idea. See, the Bosses show no signs of understanding the disruption and disturbance that visitors cause, so I reasoned that the periodic appearance of said visitors is likely to continue. So what about, I said to Scratchy, transferring ourselves on these occasions to the Wasted Space? They might not be ideal, but surely as a temporary measure they would suffice.
Scratchy looked at me for a while. "Huh?" he said.
"Look," I said. "I'll show you."
Well, that was fun, in a way, but it's no good. No matter which way I turned, those sofas are too small to sleep on. I won't be trying it again. As I said, Wasted Space.

Stick to it Daisy, stretch if you have to! The Pharoahs Hounds all agree with you, although Ananka and Missy are sick of being locked up so much. They would like to play with Kharis at the moment, and he would love to play with them.
It's hard to explain to a dog that he's not actually a stud dog anymore - he has other ideas.
