Hey! That's wrong! What the hell did those people do to their dogs? They don't have heads, and they look like they can't move either. Make 'em fix them, make 'em do it now!

Roux, the outraged Poodle Dog & Honorary Greyhound who can't spell tonight

Thanks Roux. Someone needed to make some noise about this!

Mr. Champion, my mom says she's outraged by the depiction of dogs with speakers in their necks. I'm not sure what she means by depiction or speakers, but I could tell she thought that the picture wasn't good, she said approprate. So I think a lot of people should demand that they give those dogs their heads back and unfreeze them or whatever they've done but mom explained that they were never alive really but I don't believe her, I think she was just trying make me feel better. I mean if those poor dogs could have that done to them there in the place you live with Scratchy and Daisy, could they be next? That would be horrible. It could even be Clyde or Heidi or their foster dog. Awful. I'm a very upsed Poodle Dog.

My dear Roux,

I can assure you that there is nothing to worry about.

I hope.

Roux,

We agree with you, that is a horrible thing to do to a dog. Our Missus says the point is that they aren't speakers in their necks but wofers like Mr. Champion said but she says it is a pretty macabre joke. We don't think it is nice at all. We live in a sensible country town not a silly place like Melbourne so I don't it could happen to us but we are trying to get the Boss and the Missus to drive over there and rescue Scratchy and Daisy before it happens to them. This is even worse than seeing Scratchy squashed into an exploding eye trug or whatever it was!

My Dearest Heidi -

Oh, would you please? I think both Scratchy and Daisy could be in serious trouble if they live near where those poor dogs are. As for speakers and woofers, neither my mom will ever make a distinctions. Dogs are woofers, speakers are things that make strange non-barking noises, and that's the way both mom and I see it.

Let me know if you can get Scratchy and Daisy out of harms way, it would be horrible to see those beautiful greyhounds turned into such horrible "things".

And what are the chances of rescuing those poor dogs, can they be saved? I'm so worried, I hope that never happens in Texas.

Your friend,
Roux

Dear Roux,

We got the car all ready, Clyde put in some of his biscuits and Paul our Foster hound ate them. He doesn't understand about computer messages just yet.

The Missus says she is ready to go once she has got her chooks settled back in after the Royal and after she has seen the Boss off back to Leigh Creek on Friday.

There is a snag though. She says Melbourne is not like our town. If you want to find someone here you just go to the Post Office and ask Phil where they live. The Missus says there is lots of Melbourne and lots of Post Offices in Melbourne and even if we found the right one the people in it probably wouldn't be as friendly as Phil is. The Missus says if Mr Champion will tell us where to come she'll be set out but she won't go till then. She says she's does not intend to drive every street of Melbourne calling "Scratchy, Daisy" particularly not given a Greyhound's ability to be on a different planet when its name is called.

Clyde and I have tried our best with winning smiles and heart breaking sighs but she won't give in. Humans make things so complicated! She says she loves Scratchy and Daisy just as much as we do but she says she can trust Mr Champion to look after them. I am not so sure, after all he did let Daisy squash Scratchy and he did think those horrible woofers were funny. He thinks Scratchy is funny sometimes too. What if he decides to put both funny things together? It is all rather worrying but the Missus says she can't just go and get Scratchy and Daisy without permission. We pointed out that she has got our permission and that Scratchy has asked to come and play in our orchard but she says that is not enough. On her head be it if Scratchy ends up with a woofer for a head instead of his own dear silly hound head!

Dear Heidi,

If only I didn't live so far away, mom says, oceans away, we'd come right now and start the search. Mom says that there is a dog park really close to where Scratchy and Daisy live, and some pictures show the ocean, so maybe they live near there, and mom says that even though Melbourne is big, she's seen bigger, and she's a willing if your mom will help her divide the city. And there's the telephone, we could look up the number and find out where they live that way, maybe. But you're mom and, of course, you, are right, my Champion does have a rather funny sense of humor, so does my mom but she doesn't think Scratchy would look good with a woofer instead of his hound head and certainly Daisy would look just awful.

Thank your mom, keep trying, and to convince her that a rescue from dire circumstances isn't the same thing as taking a dog without permission, the circumstances are the permission, and as you've said Scratchy has given his permission by his stated desire to run in your orchard.

So... Take care of yourselves, and the new? foster Paul, he'll learn. What about Abby? or your other foster whose name I tend to get wrong and forget entirely.

Hello Roux,

The Missus is still refusing to move until we hear from Mr. Champion, she says she can't see Mr Champion doing that to Scratchy or Daisy and as he works from home no one else is going to get to them. Have you noticed though that we haven't heard a word from Scratchy or Daisy since we saw that picture? You don't think Mr Champion was trying to tell us something awful do you? Scratchy and Daisy don't look much like the dogs in the picture do they? Surely it couldn't be them, could it? I wish we knew that they were all right, I'm having nightmares thinking about it and having horses tramping all over my dreams is not good for me. I think I'm going to think Melbourne thoughts at the Missus all night and hope it works.

Yes, Paul is our new foster boy. You'd love him Roux, he is big and black and a total softy. He makes Clyde look almost intelligent he's so soppy. He comes from the same kennel as Angie, it's a lovely little place with only about 9 hounds and they are treated like kings. Angie failed one of the big tests we have to pass, we told her and told her "just don't chase the little white fluffies" but she couldn't help herself. The trouble is you can't expect all adopters to understand how strong that chase thing can be for some of us and that could result in a tragedy. Her trainer came and got her back to be his own pet hound and he brought Paul up with him. The Missus fell in love with him so he stayed. He is going to make someone very happy, he is such a beautiful big dope.

Clyde is jealous of him and keeps on growling at him, silly old fool, he can't see that no one will ever take his place with the Boss and the Missus or me. He nearly always gets anxious when there's a nice boy here and it's got worse since his eyesight has begun to fail. Of course because he growls at them they need more cuddles to reassure them so he gets more jealous. Silly old fool.

Your friend Heidi.

Heidi,

Zeus used to get that kind of jealous about Roux, but mom would tell him it wasn't acceptable behavior, and she'd cuddle Roux and then him. Mom always said that if one of us got cuddles that the other had to get them too. But mom's kinda strange that way.

I too am worried about Scratchy and Daisy, but you're right with Mr. Champion working from home it would be very hard for anyone to take either of them. Except Scratchy is such a big goof he might just go with anyone. I won't get in a car unless mom is in it, but make exceptions for her sister and Jerry. I won't even leave the yard unless she's outside. I don't know about Scratchy or Daisy. But, NO I don't think those poor dogs with the woofer things are either Daisy or Scratchy, they both look too small, and neither have the eleglance of a greyhound or a poodle dog. So I don't think they are either of them, thank doggess.

But keep thinking those thoughts, and we'll all hope and say special prayers that we hear from Mr. Champion soon, or from Scratchy and/or Daisy.

Tell Paul to hang in there, my mom had an uncle named Paul and he was a very nice and gentle and patient man, so I believe Paul will be too. If he tries to help Clyde some, like showing him where hazzards are when you are all out running maybe Clyde will come to understand. Meanwhile if you give a little more cuddling and stuff to Clyde to reassure him that you still love him most it might help. Clyde is just being a boy and jealous like most boys bet. If I liven anywhere near you I'd love to meet Paul and talk mom into adopting him, but mom says we're really far, far away and it isn't possible. And I hope Angie finds the right home for her. I know how much most greyhounds want to chase fuzzy white things and how hard it is to stop, I love to chase things too, but I also want to be able to check on mom, so I always go check her even if it means leaving off chasing.

Oh, well,we're all different. I'm with you and Clyde on hoping you can find a way to get your mum to go find out how they are. I'll send the thought at her all tonight too.

Your Friend,
Roux

Just kidding!

We're all right, really. As you guys said, it's just Big Boss's silly sense of humour. Honestly, sometimes he gets so carried away, he runs around like a dog with its head cut off, or whatever that expression is.

Anyway, thanks all for your concern, but there's no need to mount a rescue mission. As for getting lost in Melbourne, Big Boss has only been here for two years and he still gets lost every day. Mind you, he gets lost trying to find his way to the letter box.

Hugs Roux, hugs Heidi, licks Clyde (blush) and a special hello from Scratchy and me to Paul.

Oh, Daisy, thank dogess that you are Scratchy are all right, I've been so worried, I think I almost had mom talked into finding a way to borrow the money so we could both get there to help with the hunt.

I think she'll be relieved about not having to find money to fly both of to Melbourne (I'm not sure what that all means, but I think it might cost a lot of that stuff peoples are always worrying about).

Please tell the Big Boss that while Our mom, mums bosses might appreciate his humor, it worries us smarter types especially poodle dogs and greyhounds with brains.

Thanks for being in touch. Now get your Big Boss to take you and Scratchy out to visit Clyde and Heidi and the new dog Paul.

Your friend,

Roux

Oh thank Doggess too!

I was having nightmares all night and then I'd disturb Paul and he'd decide he had to go out so I had to go out too to make sure he didn't get Dognapped by Woofer makers and the Missus was sort of running out of patience.

I didn't get up this morning when the boys did, I was ruined by the disturbed night, the Missus says if Mr Champion goes and upsets me like that again she's going to ship me to Melbourne and leave me to find out where he lives!

I think she's only joking, I hope she's only joking. She says disturbed nights should be a thing of the past now that all the children are safely married off and having children of their own. I say she should feel privileged to have Greyhounds disturbing her nights instead of children. Having made the acquaintance of the children's children it is my considered opinion that we Greyhounds offer a number of advantages that children do not.

It is so good to hear from you again Daisy, though my heart leapt into my mouth when the Missus read out your first message. It seems to me that Mr Champions peculiar sense of humour might be catching.

Do get your Big Boss to bring you out here for a visit, we'd love to show you around the orchard.

Roux, thanks for the suggestions for Clyde. He does get lots of cuddles, he even gets to sleep in the Boss and Missus's bedroom now his other eyeis going bad, no dog has ever been allowed to do that before. He's beginning to accept Paul better now, especially as Paul doesn't know how to stand up for himself and keeps on being very submissive to Clyde. Not good for Clyde's ego, I'm going to have to take him down a peg or two after Paul moves on but it makes for a more peaceful existence and I'm all for that.

love from Heidi.

The Big Boss without his head is somewhat a funny picture, mom says it isn't but really a two legger without a head, their senses are bad enough without that handicap.

Mom says my sense of humor is warped, but then she thought the woffer dogs were amusing, so...

Heidi I hope the nightmares are gone, they should stay out with the other horses, not run around inside your house kennel and disturb your sleep. And do they leave a mess? Probably. Now maybe Paul will settle down, but you might want to remind your mums that at least he asks to go out and doesn't leave mistakes in the house.

I'll write later, your friend, Roux
